ISOS organized a launch event for the first peer-reviewed academic journal for Somali Studies,published in Somalia, on 12/5/2016. 

This event attended by scholars, researchers, universities and research centers, higher education government officials, civil society and public figures.

SOMALI STUDIES: A Peer-Reviewed Academic Journal for Somali Studies”is the first of its kind issued from Somalia, and almost, the third one in the world [a peer-reviewed journal specialized in Somali Studies]. The inaugural issue, volume 1, is released in Mogadishu on April 2016. This journal is open access and all articles are freely available online.

On the occasion of this event, Talowadaag Roundtable program organized a discussion on “SOMALI STUDIES IN SOMALIA: Which Way Forward?” At the beginning, the panelists outlined an overview of the situation of Somali Studies field in terms of knowledge production and dissemination; then the participants discussed the issue.

The panelists were Dr.Sherrif Osman of Mogadishu University; Mrs. Fouzia Warsame, Dean of Faculty of Education and Social Science, Somali National University;and Mr. Mustafa Abdullahi of ISOS.

It was a fruitful discussion and valuable recommendations was provided.
