Policies
Somali Studies: A Peer-Reviewed Academic Journal for Somali Studies publishes peer-reviewed scholarly papers which are the work solely of the author and must not have been previously published elsewhere, nor under the consideration by any other publication. The submission may be original research, review paper or book review. Somali Studies publishes book reviews on newly printed books, and also publishes the abstracts of theses and dissertations.
Somali Studies publishes in English and Somali languages in a clear and correct style. The manuscripts should follow the academic standards with appropriate methodology for each discipline. The citation and references can be in any format as long as the format is consistent.
The author must ensure that the manuscript does not violate any copyright or intellectual property rights. Plagiarism is a scholarly misconduct and violation of publication ethics and must be avoided. The authors have the primary responsibility to ensure that their manuscript is free from plagiarism. However journal’s editors and reviewers carefully detect and scrutinize any plagiarism in the manuscript.
All submissions to Somali Studies undergo initial evaluation by the editors. Only the suitable manuscripts are then peer reviewed by two or more referees, in double-blind peer review process, in which both identities of reviewers and author are anonymous from each other during the review process. According to the reviewers` recommendations and comments the editor takes the final decision on the manuscript.
The final decision may be one of the following: accept the article in principle, accept with minor changes, return to author for major changes, or reject it. Only accepted manuscripts will be published after completing the editing process.
A symbolic honorarium is paid to the author(s) for each published article or essay as a token of gratitude for their contribution, to promote quality research, and to motivate young researchers facing economic constraints.
The published article in Somali Studies, both the journal and the author have a full copyright of the work, and have the right to re-use it in any form, though providing the first publication is acknowledged.
