ISOS organized Cilmiwadaag Platform on the theme of “Recovering the Somali State”, presented by Dr Abdurahman Badiyow on 23 November 2016, and attended by dozens of academicians and civil society activists.
Badiyow presented main concluded points of his new book “Recovering the Somali State: The Role of Islam, Islamism and Transitional Justice”.
Dr Badiyow proposed and highlighted, in recovering and rebuilding of Somalia, the inevitability of (1) promoting a concept of citizenship and Islamic values based on consensual culture and collectivity; (2) promoting a culturally-sensitive Islam understandable to all Somalis; (3) developing suitable mechanisms of Transitional Justice to remove the societal mistrust and heal the past injuries of civil war.
After the presentation, the participants discussed excitingly and contributed their suggestions and questions.
Dr Abdurahman Moalim Abdullahi (Badiyow) is an active scholar and politician, he authored two books “The Islamic Movement in Somalia: A study of the Islah movement, 1950-2000; published in 2015” and “Recovering the Somali State: Islam, Islamism and Transitional Justice; published in 2016” with numerous articles and book chapters.
