In partnership with the Lauder Institute at Pennsylvania University, Institute for Somali Studies (ISOS) at Mogadishu University organized and hosted Why Facts and Think Tanks Matter event on Thursday January 31, 2019 at Mogadishu, Somalia.
The event featured a launch of 2018 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, this edition marks the 12th anniversary of the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report. In this report, ISOS has been ranked in the top think tanks in Sub-Saharan Africa, ranked 87th overall out of all 612 think tanks in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The launch followed by a panel discussion entitled “Why Facts and Think Tanks Matter in Post-Conflict Somalia” presented by distinguished speakers with different academic interests and professional background and participated by think tanks, academicians, civil society organizations and activists, media, government officials and other policy actors and public figures.
This event was a part of a global event organized and hosted by 330 organizations and local institutions in more than 100 cities around the world.
The Global Go To Think Tank Index is compiled by the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. It is the largest, most comprehensive database of think tanks, comprising 8,162 institutions around the globe.
ISOS is a research center within Mogadishu University established in 2001. It promotes analysis of key and contemporary issues and developments in Somalia, Horn of Africa, and the Somali communities in abroad. It focuses on issues which are critical to the recovery and rebuilding of Somalia.
