The 5th Annual Conference on Somali Studies (ACSOS2019) has been successfully completed in Mogadishu, Somalia. The conference took place in 12-14 November 2019 under the theme of “Knowledge to Action: Promoting Resilience & Recovery”. It brought together academics, researchers, practitioners, public figures and civil society activists from different institutions, mostly universities and research centers across the country.
The conference opened by H. E. Abdirahman Jabiri, Somalia's State Minister for Education, Culture and Higher Education, Federal Government of Somalia, on 12 Nov 2019 at Sahal Conference Hall.
The conference consisted of 11 sessions within 3 days (3 plenary sessions & 8 concurrent sessions), during which two keynote speeches and 32 paper & panel presentations were delivered in addition to 52 contributors in the open floor discussion. The conference also provided a platform for networking and socializing.
Two distinguished experts delivered keynote speeches; the first keynote speaker was H. E Sadik Warfa, MP, Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, on the theme of "Job Creation in Post-conflict Somalia: Challenges, Strategies, Prospects". The second were Dr Abdurahman Badiyow; a historian, author and politician; on the theme of “Notes on the History of the Somali Peninsula: from Ancient Times to the Medieval Period”.

The Annual Conference on Somali Studies (ACSOS) is an academic conference launched in April 2014 and is organized in Mogadishu every year by the institute for Somali Studies within Mogadishu University. It provides a platform for academicians, researchers, practitioners and other scholars to present and discuss their work, also to exchange updated knowledge and issues in the field, with special consideration of the topics vital to the recovery and reconstruction of Somalia.
